Ken's Meng T-90A

Post by ScaleArmorBuilder »

i received the Meng T-90A last year as a birthday present. I've been fascinated with Russian MBT's for a while now. This will be the first Russian tank I've built as well as the first Meng kit I've built.

The wiki on the T-90 http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-90

The kit I'm building:

As you can see there are plenty of parts to keep me busy for a while. But from what I've read it's one of the best T-90 kits available. The instructions are very good and there is a small amount of PE as well as a wheel painting mask.

I'll post a build update in the morning.

I love the instructions for the Meng kits. Color pictures for the markings and camo, what a novelty!

Here's yesterdays progress. Got all the suspension done and most of the engine. Its a shame the engine will be hidden once its finished.
So far everything has gone together easily, but the fiddly parts are still to come...(turret)

Great start mate. I have had my eye on this kit, or the Trumpeter one to go alongside my 2S19 kit.

What kind of colour scheme are you going for?

Im not sure yet on the camo. I like the tri-tone but Ive been trying to find some camo that is used in the field and not just parades.

Ive been trying to find some replacement lenses for this kit but everyone is out of stock. SKP227

Whenever I have seen vids of T-90's they just seem to be all over green. Bit boring, but if its more of a field used look you want, that might be the most suitable.

I think a blue tri-tone would look cool, like the fighter camo.

Guess Ill need some silly putty and russian colors.

Finally an update. Sorry don't get on the PC much. Build has been going smooth so far. A few fiddly parts and at least one screw up in the instructions...(for the rear lights)

Hope to start on the turret tomorrow after work.

Also, what do you think, fuel drums on or off?

Great progress Ken! Love what you did with the engine and yes it is going to be a shame to cover it all up. Is there no option to leave the panel open/loose? Personally, I like the fuel drums on the back. Enjoy the turret build and looking forward to the build update! :th:

No updates yet. Work week was hectic and once I was home I wasnt in the mood for modeling... I hope to get some more done tomorrow.

As far as the engine cover, you can slightly open it with the turret on. Ill make it removable so the engine can be seen once it all finished.

Still havent been able to find the SKP Model lenses for this kit. SKP-227
Anyone know of some modern russian tank crew figures? Id like to build a mini diorama for this kit.

Great work so far, that engine looks top notch! Hows well does the kit go together, im thinking i may just need to snag one next paycheck. I think evolution miniatures also has a few modern tankers(not sure what was linked above)

Kit goes together like a dream so far. I did notice the instructions leave a bit to be desired in a few step. Just check fit before you glue and you will be fine.

Wow! Still no updates on this build guys. Been busy trying to finish the Tiger 1 build. Or at least get it ready for paint.
Possibly later this week I will have a better update.

It's possible but I doubt I'll make the deadline. My wife's grandfather passed away and we've been dealing with his estate.
The T-90 will still be finished though and I'll be sure to post pictures.

I haven't touched anything modeling related in a few months now. Everything is packed up. My wife and I hope to be closing on a new house in the next week or 2. It does happen to have a large room in the basement that I hope to claim. Ill start a new thread once I start on the T-90 again, incase this section is gone.
