~PART SEVEN~

PAINTING
So I really wanted to give all the new AK Interactive paints I've got a try, so I tried to use them as much as I could on this beast. They spray beautifully from my airbrush - better than any other brand so far!

The tires and rubber side plates were painted in AK Interactive's "Rubber Tires". Sorry for the dark photos, but the camera doesn't like dark things on a dark surface.

And next the hull was pre-shaded in AK's "Satin Black". Both of these colours are from their Tracks and Wheels weathering set. Highly recommended

All the bits painted up!

The tracks were painted in AK Interactive's "Dark Tracks".

Then I painted the hull, turret, wheels, and side plates with AK "Olivegrun Option 1". Yes I painted a modern Russian tank with WWII German Green!

So I hope you can see some of the pre-shading showing through here...it's quite hard to see because it simulates shadows and so it blends in with natural shadows in the picture.
But basically I only sprayed green from above - down onto the tank - and this leaves deeper areas (for example the very front of the turret) darker with the base black colour. You can also see how the green on the rear plate gets gradually darker lower down. It's much more obvious in real life rather than in these photos.

Tires and tracks glued on.

And then the outer layer of wheels and the side plates.

You can see the effect of the pre-shading here; notice how the upper surfaces of the boxes are lighter than the sides. I also lightly sprayed the metal plates under the exhaust with the green to bring more interest to them.

Next up: Highlights.
So you can see, the Olivegrun Option 2 is lighter than the Option 1. I painted certain surfaces with this colour to bring more interest to these details. I also used a lightened mix of 2/3 Option 2 and 1/3 Dust for even lighter highlights. I painted these with a 5/0 paintbrush.

They add some interest to those boring, blocky side skirts and the details on the turret. Rivets, handles, wires, or just flat panels, lighten up those details to make 'em "Pop".
Next up, I highlighted with a thin layer of Tamiya's XF-13 "Japanese Army Green" through the airbrush to brighten up the green. I did this over the highlights that I'd already brushed on to tone them down a little, but the weathering helps with that too.

Better lighting really shows off the highlights now. It's quite extreme, yes, but the washes and filters and other weathering effects will tone down the highlights. Therefore it's important to make them strong right now as to not lose them later
WEATHERING
So I did a video on the weathering rather than photos because it better shows how I actually did it rather than just an explanation in words. And I don't think I can take photos of myself working with a brush because I don't have three hands...YET
So I hope you guys enjoy the video and I hope it helps you out somehow
It is a complete visual and explanatory demonstration of the weathering process on the tank.

So the tank is all done up...it's been a great build, and I would 100% recommend this kit to the intermediate to advanced modeler. Not a beginner kit, though, with those tracks! But it builds up very easily, very quickly, and enjoyably - even the ERA is well done. Final reveal up soon!
