This is what I've got after trying that Testors stuff, and a bit of an oil weathering....

Image

It's quite nice I think...the dull cote I mean
Next I wanted to try out the Xtraylix PRU blue, never tried this paint before so here goes...
First prime and a bit of pre-shading...

Image

Then..

Image

That is after applying Aqua Gloss. This paint, lovely colour (Will?)

Looking good mate. And yes, have some of the same paint ready to go. Used some of the RLM colours on a 109 and they were really nice. What are you thinning it with?
I only ask as I've heard they can be temperamental unless you use the same brand thinners.

Hi Will, just using Ultimate thinner down to the consistency of milk, though know the sort of thing. Admittedly I've only used it for the spinners so far, but it seems really nice, might get some more. I've read you can thin it with water mate :

Yep, agree with that rube

Cockpit next, which means that damn PE...
First off some assembly..

Image

Seems a shame to get rid of some nice detail. Not a new dilemma I know..

Image

Prime

Image

Interior green and a collection of colours

Image

I detail painted, dry brushed, clear coated, oil pin wash, matte cote and finally got the PE on. That left me with this...

Image

Image

Image

Bomb bay. Not worried about this as I'm going have the bay closed up.....I think :

Image

Thing is with PE, when its done well it can be fabulous, when its not done so well...

Now the good bit...

I'm going try a pre-shade mottling thing. I had a go at this on my 109 with mixed results but undetered I'll try again, I kinda like the idea of instant gratification...

Image

Image

Now some black...

Image

Image

Xtracrlix PRU blue.
My first time with this paint, it's really quite good, I might get some more....

Image

Image

Image

Image

Look! Instant gratification
It's not as washed-out in real life and actually the effect of the black and white is OK. I should have made the white a bit stronger. I suppose the upshot of all this buggering about, is black is a stronger colour than white :wtf:
I'll get some Aqua Gloss on next, then we'll see where we are....

Weathering now.
Considering the rough nature of some of the paintwork, I'll go for a oil pin wash. Lets make our own, nothing
complicated just some oil paint and thinners mixed up in a old bottle. I've no idea on the ratio just kept adding and mixing till I thought I look right...

Image

Lets see what it looks like...

Image

It's quite subtle, I'm not sure it comes out in these pics..

Image

Image

Image

Not sure if I'll add any more weathering as I don't think the real thing would've been that dirty.
Matt cote next I fancy..

Thanks for that John.
Normally I don't know when to stop mate, but in this case I think it's about now. What you've got to ask yourself is
"How do you weather down a wooden aeroplane....?"
Ta bud..

After throwing on a Testors Dullcote, we're heading round the last bend and into the home strait ( :wtf: )

Undercarriage being fitted, some exhaust staining, bits and bobs etc...

Props need matting down...

Done...

:bash: :wall:  on removing the mask, I've a bit a bleed through. It's clear/matte stuff so this part of the canopy is ******..

Not happy but what can you do? I could try to rub it down with sanding stick but I'd probirly make it worse :wall:
