After seeing the new teaser trailer I'm tempted to scrap the small kit I was going to build and work on a crashed Star Destroyer! That's about half the kit I won't have to work on once I cut it off! :thumb2:

I need some SciFi expert help....what exactly is "fuselage colour" for an X-Wing???
That is all my Fine Molds kit says in the instructions, and there are some heated discussions/ opinions online
I would be using Tamiya paint, maybe sky grey??

A while back when I painted my X wing I used a lightened version of XF-19 Sky Grey. I then did some panel variations also.

Here are a couple of links to further your research.
http://www.theforce.net/swtc/index.html Some great exibit photos of a battle worm x wing ( click on X wing in Exibitions)

http://www.guntruck.com/XWingFighter.html Great little build with good in-depth commentary.

If else fails put the dvd on and pause for some screen shots...trust your eyes for a good match.

Good luck with your build mate :th:

Thanks mate, it looks like I am headed the right direction
I am waffling a little in my thoughts of the build and might get the 1/72 bandai x wing kit to plunge into the mucky scene and keep the nice Fine Molds kit for later
Found some good figures as well...haven't modelled any figures yet
Hmmm, it is all so tempting

Nice Idea. I'm keen on getting a Fine Molds 1/72 kit of some sort but they are pretty pricy and freight to NZ is a killer. Thinking I might get a Jango Slave 1 kit out of Asia, Free Freight is a bonus. Will be starting on my Bandai AT-ST

I bit the bullet and bought some Bandai stuff...will save the Fine moulds as collection or to build on its own later.
For Bandai I got...droids r2 and another dude, x wing 1/72 I will trash in the swamp and a storm trooper . Thinking about making the trooper into a troupette...by altering her,ahh chestal plate area and such

Sounds like you have a few to build. Look forward to seeing them progress hobbyman :thumb1:

I would love to get some of those bargains on ebay, but the freight to New Zealand costs more than the purchase itself.

Got the Bandai at-st to start with, also have speeder ordered and plan to get speeder.

catch ya on the build thread.

Hi all,

As my plans for the homeland build have been shelved due to date restictions :violin: (I was planning to build a RNZAF Avenger called Plonky, shot down in 1944) i thought I would see if I could join this GB.

I don't have any star wars kits in the stash so I thought I would scratch build something. At this early stage I am thinking of making some electro-binoculars or maybe spinning up a bar of aluminium on the lathe and making a lightsaber handle.

I guess this would be your decision kiwigav.I hope it fits the criteria of your GB

Cheers

Hi thumboy ,how's it across the other side of Cook Strait. Scratch build all good as long as it exists in the SW universe. Sabre would be cool , which characters weapon might you decide to build a replica of?

Hi Gav, It's very wet and windy here in Wellington, not like sunny Nelson

not sure of a character yet only thought of it tonight but I have always liked obi wan or Luke but it would probably depend on who has the most simple design as my lathe skills are a bit rusty to say the least.

Would it be possible to make one of my own design??? Perhaps belonging to a background character.

Had another thought that it would be cool to make it with working lights : good job we've got 8 months :th:

Be good to see a replica but lets see what you can do for a background characters sabre...good luck look forward to seeing progress.

Hobby Link Japan have the New Bandai Kits and a few old Finemolds ones. The price and freight are reasonable.

Not me.
I'll be waiting for it to come out on Netflix.
Netflix Canada has said that as soon as it's out of theatres they'll be streaming it.
Or I'll just download it from somewhere if I see it.
I can't go to theatres so I'll have to wait a year or more to watch it.

Not sure Lee. He only showed the box of the millennium falcon. But basically explained that Revell had made a deal with Disney and Fine Moulds to use the fine moulds tooling and release it as Revell. The vid was mainly about the new Force Awakens snap kits, and he threw this news in at the end! :th:

Something that some of you fellas may be interested in.
Fine Scale Modeller is doing a Star Wars feature contest for their mag and they're looking for stuff to be entered.
Since many of use are near to completion or have completed, why don't you enter and see what happens.
If that sorta thing floats yer boat. My tries aren't very imaginative, but a few of yours are pretty freaking epic pieces and would probably show off really well.

Here's a link to it if you're interested...

I was so blown away by the quality of work at the local IPMS show in October thought no way would I ever enter anything
Thanks for the heads up on that contest :thumb2:

Just been on the Revell site and its there! The 1/72 Falcon, I even recognised the stand from the Fine Moulds kit. Only problem - the nasty men at Revell are pricing it at $300

SHAMEFUL. I know its a good kit but that's a really un-cool price.
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

That's about $100 more than I paid for the fine molds one that I built for the sig.
Damn! It's a well stocked kit, worth near $200... Unless they've added a tonne of stuff it's definitely not worth $300. Not by a long shot.

Damn! It's a well stocked kit, worth near $200... Unless they've added a tonne of stuff it's definitely not worth $300. Not by a long shot.
Just seen the Bandai 1/144 Falcon being reviewed on YouTube. It looks an absolute beauty and its £35. Looks like that may be the way to go - at least for now anyway - Lol
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.
