KiwiGavs Tamiya 1/24th Porsche 911 GT3

Post by kiwigav »

Introduction

May I introduce the kit I plan to build.

The kit is a goodie and has great detail and includes flock transfer for carpets and metal foil emblem, so "Out of Box" looks a little bit better

In my next post I will have a unboxing video with the best "Winter Cold" croaky voice included

First Steps

Made a little start. Finished lower arms and started on chassis and suspension. Brakes almost done, just need to paint middle and give discs a wash to bring out detail

Next steps is finish chassis with variations of tone on engine and have heaps of fun painting suspension springs.

Update 2

Have managed to paint exhaust system with AK extreme metal aluminum and then a very thinned wash of tamiya titanium gold. Also painted suspension, if this wasn't a OOB build I'd be getting aftermarket or scratch building Springs, but they haven't come out too bad.
Also started on interior painting using tamiya x18 semi gloss and have been experimenting with adding gloss details using alclad aqua gloss rather than using gloss paint...pretty pleased

And this is what I'm hoping for as a finished product

Agggh Gav , you kiwis have such high standards ( I know because I'm married to one :thumb1: ) how did you apply the aqua gloss ? Did you spray it , if so how did you go about masking it up ?
On the bench : Eduard Nieuport 17 in 1/48
Monogram Aston Martin DB4 James Bond look a like
Tamiya Ferrari F50 in 1/24 for GB

Cement and paint not included?! But how will you build it! ;)

Looking fab, Gav. Like Scott, somehow this flew under my radar. I guess I'll wait my turn for shotgun and instead eat some :pop:

Update 3

The interior pretty much buttoned up. Added a little detail painting on console. But kept it to a minimum. I have gone for contrast thru using different finishes ie glossy and satin. The metal gt3 badge which goes on back window sill, ledge parcel tray whatever you call it is going to be left to the last minute, probably lose it otherwise.

Quick Update

Hi guys just as quick update on where I'm up to...
well I haven't got far at all. October I ordered some primer and paint from Gravity Colors to finish the body and model in general...but It still hasn't arrived. I must say tho Gravity Colors have been great and no part their fault, as I have been in contact with them and they have done everything they can do to track down my order. They have decided to re-send my order, lets hope that arrives. I am certain that freighting companies are at fault and most likely just lost.

Its is a bit of a annoyance but I do get that from time to time as Living in New Zealand freight can take a long time and cost the earth also. I suppose I really need to try and plan ahead for builds as most GBs or SIGs are only 3-4 months long and I should have everything ready before I start.

So..... I don't think I will be revealing the Porsche in time, but will keep posting in this thread. Many thanks for everyone's comments so far and also Matt from Gravity Colors for being such a great help.

good luck to those who finish
Cheers Gav

Bummer man, but I'm more or less in the same boat. I'll finish, just not with any fanfare or on time ;)

This looks to good to rush anyway/

Finally another update

After some waiting I received the second shipment from Matt at Gravity.
This is a big post as I have got carried away and got heaps done.
Got the chassis finished and the body painted and clear coated. Just need to work on the glass parts and finish.

Scribing the panel lines deeper for paint

Sanding some unwanted lines

Starting to prime with Gravity white primer

Gravity Porsche yellow goes down
Image

Gravity 2 part clear goes down really well.

After using the Gravity 3 stage polish system and wax I am really pleased with results. Now adding chrome
