it took 2 years to build up that stash. nearly all kits are from ebay! you can really save a lot of money on ebay. for most of the models i paid the half or a third of the regular price. i have been a lot in afghanistan in the last years so i hadn't the time to build all the kits! but that's ok ... someday i will build them all

I'm new to the forum. With that said, I'm very impressed with the scope and variety of the workshops that were displayed here. Paul's shop leads the way, but I don't think many of us either could amass the quantity of supplies he has, or work in such an organized manner bordering on a surgical suite in a hospital. Coen's new shop is equally impressive and is organized in a way more dear to my heart. In Coen's case, he's going to have to stop building tanks now, since he's filled up all of his shelves already. He didn't plan on expansion.

I have a question... how can some people display so many images whereas I'm finding a 3 image limit?

My house has a nice big basement... large enough for a huge model train layout AND a very ample workshop. Here's what it looks like.

All of the paints and supplies are in the black multi-draw cabinet on the left. I've been inspired by many of the workshops shown to make a rack to hold the Tamiya, Vallejo and craft colors. Each of their bottles are different shapes. I have a lazy susan paint stand, but it doesn't fit the Tamiya bottles.

On the right side tables is a Taig miniature model-makers lathe. Although plastic kits don't need many machined parts, having this machine has saved me many times. It was essential in creating the brass masting for Tamiya Missouri I built. I showed this model in the Intro to New Members thread. I have a natural daylight compact florescent bulb in the work light, which is much cooler than the old incandescent bulb it replaced, but now I'm thinking of using an LED which would be even cooler. I don't have a spray booth and that's the next thing I must build/buy so I can spray solvent-based paints. I had a Badger air brush that's 40 years old along with a single cylinder compressor that's 35 years old. It doesn't have a resevoir nor pressure adjustment so that's another item that needs upgrading.

The shop is big enough where my two grandsons can work on their own projects at the same time as my work. It's been wonderful!

what a dream stash you have Andre! That's the stuff modelling wet dreams are made of... that and Paul's man-cave. I'm at a temporary set-up at the moment, so will have to post after it's been sorted... super jealous though... one day!

A mini lathe... LUCKY!! I've had my eye on one from Micro Mark. They're a bit pricey and the shipping is a bugger.
I'm really envious that you get to build with your grand kids.
That is something you all will treasure.
I'd love to see that train layout.

Cool work area. I am so jealous of people who have basements as we just do dot build them in our houses in Australia. When you think about it it just does not make sense as they would be great in our summer months as they are cool and then relatively warm in winter. The extra storage must be a huge bonus as well. We also do not have attics in our houses which once again give you huge storage. Maybe I should become an architect and start a trend!

Same in NZ, attics/lofts are usuall big enough to hide the xmas decorations and winter clothes if ya willing to climb a ladder.
Basements are basically non existant, being that the country is sitting on the pasific ring of fire they may be pront to cracking everytime there is an earthquake.

One thing i have noticed as a teend, most builders dont have their finished kits (or only a couple if they do) in their work area's.
Personally I find them a great inspiration to get on with the next one
If you display them elsewhere id be interested to know, and im sure everyone would love photo's (unless there is already a 'display cabinet' thread somewhere that I have missed)

I thought that it was in the Modelling Chat or Non-Modelling Chat somewhere, but I can't find it now.
So I guess you could probably start one and if we find the other one we can merge the two together.

I, for one, am forbidden by She Who Must Be Obeyed to allow any of my work out of my shop.
She's given me permission to have the Moosejaw and Mr. Campbell in the rec room...
But "Only if they don't look like crap". haha

It's a blessing in disguise for you. The basements in North America are spider factories. Given the 8 legged monsters you have down under building an area you'll share with them might be something to avoid.

The big ones down here are harmless it is the smaller black ones with the little red strip you have to watch out for, though saying that they love toilets seats so as long as you check before you go it is alright. I have been in my garage now for over 8 months and have not had one spider!

Wow, Some really great rooms and setups here guys!!

Thought i'd join the fun and show some picks of our Computer / Games and as of very recently Hobby room.

The modelling area is just a fold out card table, but it works. And as i'm just getting back into modelling I am slowly accumulating paints / tools etc as I need them, maybe you guys could point out some must have items to add to my toolbox?

looks sweet! I like the portability of your tools! May I suggest picking up a few different kinds of tweezers - various kinds are good to have around! Maybe some Micro-Sol for your decaling work, otherwise looks like a great start man!! Keep it up!

I'd think about replacing that wire cutter for a nice sprue cutter, maybe getting a bottle or two of Tamiya Extra Thin. You've got good start on the basics now.
Picking things up as you go along is how we all do it.

Well here is my area for now.

My airbrushes I have four in total.

This is the hobbyzone desk orgonizer and humbrol work station

My spray booth and tool box

My stash so far there is the 1/24 London bus down stairs. (Also the wife has bought the revell 1/32 red arrow for my Xmas prezzie.)

I also have a 10 draw unit with all my other tools and paints. I have nearly all of the revell paint. Starting to use humbrol and Vallejo as I can get those from boyes in Doncaster. Also have a few model master and tamiya paints.

I would post a pic but my work area is just the dinner table unfortunately. Pretty lame I know. It's so annoying as when my mum says its dinner or something I have to clear it all away! All my gear is stored in a chest of drawers in my room which has really poor access. But i'm looking forward to my paint rack that i'm currently making. So when you guys post pics of ur 'man cave' and stuff and say 'it's not much' then you have wayyy more than me dude. Happy modelling.

I was working at the end of the kitchen table with all my gear stored in a tool chest.
It's not lame. Most of us have what you have my friend. You're the normal one dude.

I got lucky and I could build a room for my hobby...

Paul had a horrible car accident so he built his.

Etc...
What's important is what we build... not where we build.

Mate i do all my work on the dinning table that i have to share with my wife and kids when they do there craft/homework so i dont do as much as i like so your not alone mate.

I quite often still model on the dining table, as I'm out of earshot of the kids at the bottom of the garden.

Hi all this is where I get down to business. Slowly getting more paints as I build, I'm about to start buting Vallejo Model Air Paints from now on.
My spot is situated in the Computer/Office, I tend to use the old PC(pictured) as its nice and close to desk. You might see there is a few wines fermenting near by, My lovely partner loves making wine.

I'd recommend slave to painting for the paints, they are basically the same price as mightyape but have better sales and it's always nice to support the smaller buisness.

My Model work are is just a posterboard with a garbage bag covering it with some paint spills, masking tape and sprues laying all around

Thanks for showing the scale difference between 1/35th and 1/72nd spiders, it seems 1/72 is a lot more popular these days.
