Here is my entry for the SIG

and all the sprues.....

And then the final question............
What did they use....a gatteling press????????????

I will have to either fix all the pin marks, or just not build with the doors close

Also what struck me as weird is that you only start doing the wheel at step 14

Still some time before I choose the final camouflage scheme..
Lots of stuff to do on the interior first

and lots of pin marks to get rid of

But so far, all in all not to bad (built allot worse kits)

Soooooo.....Feedback on day1

Stared off by building
some of the interior components:
ENGINE AND CYLINDER COVERS

GEARBOX (or so I think)

THE DIFFERENTIAL FOR THE DRIVE TRAIN

FAN FOR RADIATOR

and then I dry fitted everything to check if it all fits

Once that was done I use some TAMIYA putty and filled up some of the more noticeable pin marks and gaps on the components

And finally started the painting of the interior components in white

As I only have Humbrol paints to work with it drying time is long so today I will start painting the engine and differential and do some building on the top hull

yeh, the enamel stays tacky for some time and its the only paint I can get locally here "Humbrol Enamel"

Or I'm just using my paint wrong that it stays tacky for so long

Here is information of the Tank:

The Type 83 self-propelled gun-howitzer was developed by NORINCO. The Type 83 is a modified copy of the Soviet 2S3 Akatsiya SPH. The first prototype was completed in 1980. Production of the Type 83 began in 1983 and ceased in 1990. This artillery system was first revealed during a military parade in 1983.

The Type 83 is developed from the Type 66 152-mm towed gun-howitzer, which is a copy of the Soviet D-20. The Type 83 was additionally fitted with a semi-automatic loader and fume extractor. This artillery system fires all types of ammunition developed for the Type 66 gun-howitzer, however it usually carries only HE-FRAG and smoke rounds. Maximum range of fire is 17.2 km with HE-FRAG projectile and 22 km with indigenous rocket-assisted projectile. A total of 30 rounds are carried. Maximum rate of fire is 4 rounds per minute. Ammunition is loaded through rear or side hatches.

The Type 83 is assumed to be capable of firing indigenous 152-mm laser-guided projectiles, based on Russian Krasnopol technology. China obtained this technology in late 1990s. This laser guided projectile is designed to defeat armored targets and has a range of 3 - 20 km.

Secondary armament consists of 12.7-mm machine gun, mounted on top of the roof.

Armor of this self-propelled howitzer provides protection against small arms fire and artillery shell splinters.

The Type 83 self-propelled gun howitzer is based on the Type 321 tracked utility chassis. Vehicle is powered by the 12150L diesel engine, developing 520 horsepower.

Not much info on the tank as it never was a serious weapon was only in service for 7 years

Just a quick update.....
Painted 90% of the interior parts and will upload pictures a bit later.
Also assembled all the wheels while waiting for the paint to dry and assembled all the interior panels and painted
the second coat of white....

So....Here is the latest update

All the interior parts for the engine an differential have been painted

The parts received a wash made of artist oil paints burnt umber and lamp black mixed with methylated spirits. I prefer this type of wash as it cleans up easy and dries fast..

and then dry fitted

Assembled all the wheels and installed all the swing arms and stoppers for each wheel

drilled all the pin holes for the stowage boxes and extras to be mounted to the top hull..

Because of the holes that needed to be drilled out I took a black marker and marked each hole with the marker and compared all the marked holes at least 3X before starting to drill them out.
There is no indication for the size of drill to be used

so after doing some dry fitting found that a total of 4 drill sizes was needed for different components....eg=> the external fuel tank had two pins, 1mm and a 2.5mm locating pin

After all the holes were drilled it was time to mount all the stowage on the top hull..

There is still some cleaning up to do on some of the stowage and glue spots

I also started to assemble the radiator...

That where I am at this stage
Still waiting on my paints for the exterior as I will paint this with Tamiya acrylics.
Not sure also if I will use the kit supplied tracks or just order different ones (will check that once I get to painting them tracks see if the paint holds)

For me I would use either use Tamiya Olive Green or Dark Green hope this helps you out

Started filling the pin marks on the turret floor..

And assembled the compressor unit inside the back of the tank

Sorry the pic is a bit out of focus

But I have no idea what I'm gonna do about these parts..

ooh well. still have so much sanding to do on the upper hull, so there is still time to work out something

I build 3 very early trumpy kits and I wanted to pull my hair out so I understand your frustration .... but hang in there.. it will make a great model once you fix all those .. not to mention it is a unique vehicle as well and not touched by many modeller

You and me both buddy, I have this kit in the stash and so have all this too look forward too! I would be tempted to almost not bother with the pin marks on the turret inside parts as I doubt you can see them when its all built anyway. Its one of these funny kits that has interior detail so you consider modelling it so that can be seen, but then its let down by huge EPMs on other parts!

Lovely interior detail mate, shame about the pin marks. You seem to have even worse than me, at least mine doesn't have the interior for Trumpeter to add more marks, some of them are just placed in such a stupid manner.

You are dealing very well with those, it's becoming a great build mate!

There is a difference in the type of headlights and the interior colors of the driver hatch

(see picture 1 and 2)

Hi Guys

Sorry for not updating my build in some time

But here is a update for what I have done up to now....so here goes.....
Finally got most of sanding done and is quite impressed on the results

But then came this..........

More sanding

But made done with that quite quickly

Here is a snag I found between the actual plastic and the instructions.....

As you can see the instructions mantel locating pin is on the wrong side(or is the plastic's?????)

(Once again, sorry for the poor pictures)

So here is some of the individual parts that has been base coated and just needs some minor weathering and can the be installed.
OOOOH.....as I can not find the future you guys keep talking about I use this.......

Takes a bit more coats to cover but as you can see is Lavender and make my workplace also smell nice, and it works.

The bin that is mounted inside the turret, locating pins does not allow for it to fit flush so I cut both off to get it to align better

The pins were wider than the box

Again.....sorry for the bad picture
Here is the engine hatch with the mesh cut to size and glued in place...just a quick question to you guys, what is the best glue to glue these mesh parts down??????

I'll try to take a better picture for this part

Don't think you can go wrong with CA glue for the mesh.

OK, so this is where I've gotten up to now......

I've painted all the radios and storage bins for the turret and installed them......

Build up the barrel and breech.....Which still needs to be weathered some more

Not gonna bother fixing the pin holes on the shell loader as I plan to place a shell there

And as can be seen from this picture there is actual no raising of the gun beyond this angle as the breech mechanism is in the way

Ans as promised, a better picture of the engine hatch...outside.....

And.....Inside with radiator

Still needs a wash though

Finished the interior, but me thinks over did it with the weathering a bit

Wanted to represent a vehicle fresh from the firing range and war games put through the tests

And then finally a dry fit to check if all the parts still fits and what can be still added that won't be broken off by handling during the last phase of construction.......

So this is where I at so far
