I got the water problem solved and pretty confident with it...just need to get it murky enough
Now I have turned thoughts to this pic and the rest of the set...working on some ideas for it

Square truss aluminum scaffolding is what I need.... like behind this beautiful MG, love how he displayed this
Maybe use wire as the internal cross parts and aluminum tube
I cannot solder aluminum so might have to use brass

Been busy with life and in a bit of a slump with modelling....Mikey got me going again by telling me about a local IPMS model show. Boy I have a long way to go skill wise, there were some superb builds, my favorite was a lit Nautalis diorama from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea fame.

So I switched from wallowing in lighting and background and moved into crashing the X Wing.
I have to sink the bird into the base to get some swamp depth, so chiseled out some plaster and wood and angle cut the lower left blaster.

Image

Image

Added two brass pins and a rod for support and mechanical hold to the base; pardon my meat hooks in the photo

Image

It is a bit of progress :bash:

Your plan for this build is a difficult build Scott, so chin up.

Thanks for the kind words my friend, muchly needed
Yes, I am kind of making it up and modifying things as I go...not too unusual for me!
Was just net surfing for some small LED lights and controller for the lighting.
Have been stumped with making the square truss scaffolding as I know what I want and how I want it to look, just how to get there is the problem : Hence the funk

PS have a great Thanksgiving Day Holiday....our turkey is cooking now and smelling awesome

My train hobby shop in Vancouver came through big time and was open today, Canadian Thanksgiving day
The plastic girders will give me a headstart for the lighting trusses.
The pack of H0 scale peoples are pretty good and I will Frankenstein them up a bit to the forms I want
1/72 and H0 are close but not the same....00 would be better, but that is mostly in the UK

So tonight I model!!!!

after my chores and the dog walk and the dishes and and and

Rare to find something that you need...may not be exact, but pretty darn good

Image

True metal aluminum painted and CA glued them together so the truss parts are most visible.
Do some spray work when weather improves
Aluminum rod will come up through the solid bottom part and attach to the base...somehow

Image

Busy work and home life this coming week, will try to squeak in some model time :ugeek:

Hopefully the ease of construction outweighed the cost for this project.
You are gonna build some fantastic rigging with these, all drapes and back drops... Lighting and cables..

Thanks Andy, I was surprised to find this in the store. It was on a far back corner shelf!
I had looked online and could not see any so was about to buy styrene stock and make it when I found the package
Under $20 CAD so not a horrible price and I have used only one sprue, so lots of extra for the future builds.
The "HO people" as I like to call them were the same amount and will be used in other dios as well
Thanks for the kind words :cheers2:

Here is a post for ya Andy...my cast of crazy characters
Image

This is going to be the guy with the movie clapperboard under his arm.....I had to look up that name.
Well this dude, named Andrew, is a bit tipsy and is hitting on gorgeous Amanda from makeup who has no interest in him
Image

Then we have the movie kingpin, Mr Moneybags and his Hollywood fixated wife, Trixie
Image

a couple of little kids who will be playing with the second R2D2 I made
Image

and my favorites, Hugh and Lou the movie set guys wondering what the heck is going on here and sure that this stupid movie will never fly...another flop from this studio and maybe we should be looking for other work
Image

That is my cast of extras watching from the sidelines
Oh and I found some trees...had to fight my dog for these sticks as she only wanted ones that were in my hand, not the stick I gave her.

Sunday night last gasp of modelling before another work week

Planting Dagobah Trees

Whatever genius designed this set made trees with suspended trunks and root tendril "feet"
Ok Mr Smarty pants, I can do that. Clear sprue supports drilled into base and fit hole in trunk of wood.

Image
Image
Image

Brass connectors drilled and fitted so I can add these root feet things

Pretty solid just friction fitted, but by the time I get things cemented it will be pretty stable. Then cover everything with lichen and such with background photos in place and voila we have a swamp...oh and I will make the water effect later too
Have a good week everyone :cheers2:

looks amazing! you can also use toilet paper to cover/connect your roots to the trunk/tree base. You use water and PVA mix, and then wrap it. it gives it a solid effect, the wrinkles in the TP make it look very natural. I've seen it online, I'm gonna go see if I can find it for you...

That is an awesome find Mikey....
... and some fan-bloody-tastic progress this past week Scott, well done dude..
Those treetops and roots and vines will keep you busy but i can see lots of interesting solutions in Mikey's share here...
If you get the chance you know you gotta try for those canopies.. ;)
As another possibility, try creating the roots with "Real" roots.. Its how i make my teeny scale trees..
Continued success bud.. All the best.. :thumb1:

Ok Mr Smarty pants, I can do that. Clear sprue supports drilled into base and fit hole in trunk of wood.
.. and such a clever idea with the clear sprue... Genius... Gonna be Epic...
Thank you, the shape of these darn trees make it so you can't just plug them into the base.
I used the clear sprue as a support for my Huey build as well...they work well, can be stretched and are almost invisible
I am going to replace that second little tree with a larger one, just gotta go hunting for sticks on the dog walk again
:cheers2: Cheers mate, Scott

Planting Dagobah Trees

Whatever genius designed this set made trees with suspended trunks and root tendril "feet"

That's looking totally and properly awesome now bud. Those figs are fab!
:th: :th: :th:
I was wondering what you were going to use. I'm thinking that the background and trees are going to be the real trick for your piece.
Looks superb so far! :thumb1: :thumb1: :thumb1:

That was our house for 13 years
In my threads, I have been moaning and groaning about moving and losing model space and time as we are building a new modelling space...I mean we are building a new modelling space with a house attached ;)
Got some cool ideas for a 16x12 hobby room in the new home

I like your perspective on that... Building a modelling space with a house attached. ;)
Hehe

That's a great sized work area, Pauls cave is 8x10 I believe and mine is 11x13 so yours will be freaking humongous! :eeek:
Very nice... Envious.
