"Hitze und Staub" Diorama (Revell Panzer II in 1:76 scale)

Post by localjedi »

Hi there, fellow modellers!

I'd like to present my very first diorama to you. I built it about a year ago and it shows the DAK in the Libyan Desert.

My idea was to take the (almost inevitable) Matchbox/Revell Panzer II kit and use it in a bigger diorama.

I've also used the Airfix Opel Blitz and Pak 40. While painting the figures of the Revell kit I broke off the grenade of the soldier :ooops: so I decided to use him as the truckdriver who just opens (or closes) the door. It kinda works, I think.

I added some blankets and stuff to give the tank a more individual look. :geek: After one year of modelling I can see that the tank kit probably isn't the best, but for a newbie like me it was a good thing to start with.

I printed out the road sign and added some more Revell DAK figures.

I also printed out an old commercial sign for a hotel in Tripolis and made a few boxes from a broken model railway house I had lying around. The sunshade is actually a piece from a real palm tree. I got that on my honeymoon. Cool, huh? :D

My sister-in-law was interested in helping me with this dio, so we worked on it together. She made the well, the stone wall and even a little snake and some eggs. :thumb2: The Pak 40... well, again I'd say ok for a beginner. I'm not even sure if the Pak 40 was around at that time (mid 1942) but who cares? I just had it, so I used it on the dio.

Here you can see the layout of the diorama. It's... how can I put it? It has a lot of straight angles, if you know what I mean... :shifty: If I could do it again, I would arrange the items in a different way. Oh well, that's 20-20 hindsight I guess. Happens a lot to me when I build models.

And just in case you forgot how small 1/76 scale models are...

Wow... this is amazing dude! I had forgotten the scale until I saw the lighter in the last shot.
Wonderful work, looks like it's 1/48 at least.
