M4A1 Sherman Repaint

Decided to repaint this one as I was never happy with the result (it was my 4th kit after all). It was originally based off of a picture that I found of a Sherman in North Africa with a really dark olive drab on it.

Now it's a Sherman M4A1 from the Fifth US Army's VI Corps, 1st Division, somewhere in Italy around early 1944. I repainted the vehicle with a custom mix of Tamiya NATO Green and Dark Yellow for the base colour, and Dark Olive Green lightened with NATO Green for the camo.

I redid the dio base by putting a bunch of coarse sand and some Woodland Scenics Talus to simulate rubble that we so often see in pictures of a Sherman rumbling down an Italian street. No idea about the figure; got him for free at my LHC already painted

And also a ton of pigments everywhere lol

Nice looking thing! I didn't know there where Shermans without any markings you just schooled me..

Thanks Hendrik! Yeah I didn't know that either until I got my new book, though I think it only really happened in Italy. Usually there'd be identification numbers at the bottom rear sides of the hull but they got painted over by the camo pattern, and they dropped the stars quite often in Italy because it ruined the camo lol

Great Sherman.
I especially love the way it sinks into the dio.
That makes it feel like it's really heavy and really standing there!

Thanks man Yeah the dio is pre-mixed tile grout that the tank is pressed into, and then I put sand and the rubble on it - I feel that weight is an important thing many people leave out
