I get stuck when there are multiple companies offering the same subject, say for example a 1/48 F-15. It's hard for me to decide which kit to get. And while you can certainly scour for kit reviews it's not very efficient and you don't really know many of the reviewers as well as you do ISM members.
To be honest, I got inspired by Cybermodeler's Top Gun Kit list, where they list their picks for the top kit of a certain scale and subject. But I'm still dissatisfied by their lists because they just put the top vote getters without any explanation.
I think it would be of great benefit to all ISM members if we had a section to the forum to display a subject:
Say an F-15 or a Panzer IV as the topic and then forum members can post which kit manufacturer makes the best kit, listing their reasons why. 1) It's a quick way to get a lay of the land and see what kits are out there 2) you get to see in one place many opinions and the reasoning behind their picks and 3) the contributors can easily update their opinions if the need arises (say a new release comes out).
The only hangup is that this needs good, experienced modelers who have built many kits but I feel like ISM has many members who fit that criteria. And I'm fairly sure that guys like Lee and Paul or Coen have been asked many many times which kit of a certain subject is best. Now you have one place to answer all those questions only once.
I think this would be a really good resource for ISM. It could really set ISM apart and relies on what I think is a major strength of this forum. Thanks for hearing me out.

Re: Best of List
It's a good idea for sure bud and one I wouldn't mind implementing. The problem is who will monitor and administer it? Unfortunately, Paul and myself are going to be a little tied up for the next 6 months or so and really need to concentrate on the things we do already.
If some one wants to step up and run a section like this on ISM that would be cool. We could even make a special title up for you etc....lol Just throwing it out there

Where does all the bloody time go.....?

Use websites like this one. Once you know what the subject is your laughing.

I use it to monitor my stash and review kits before I buy them. Best thing I ever found because it saved me huge amounts of sanders with terrible kits

^ This. I use scalemates.... ALOT.... However, I think it would be nice with a "best of 1/72" "Best of 1/35" or anything like that. And there you can post a thread wondering about the best "Tiger I" or the best "F-4 Phantom II". It would be a great tool, but it also needs someone who wants to run it.Lego wrote:Use websites like this one. Once you know what the subject is your laughing.

Re: Best of List
I'd be willing to run it. For sure, there would be a huge learning curve and it would take a lot of time and input to design it properly - but count me in. I'd also be interested in working with a few others as well so that its not a solo job.

I've let Lee know that I would be interested in helping out aswell so we'll see how things work out. Good initiative for a new topic

I like the idea and would be happy to be part of the admin team for it. Let me know if you need my assistance. Why I'd like to help? Because this is exactly what I am looking for when I checkout kits on my wishlist

Re: Best of List
Personally as a fairly "new" returnee I think it would be a great idea. I thank those who have offered to help and hope it comes off
It's not the number of times you get knocked down but how many times you get back up
