All the bits can be painted separately before you put it together. Some kits you need to do some masking, some even a LOT of masking, but this one you can just do it up on its own. Photobucket ate some pics I had from last year that illustrated this better, but here's an example, all the parts in the bin have been sub-assembled by color and will go together after painting:
