Tommy Eggplane

Post by TommyKillander »

Hey guys,

This is my first SIG build. Hope It won't be the last one :-D

Egg plane.... I ordered mine 2 weeks ago, but it haven't arrived yet so I had to come up with a plan B. Made a quick stop at my favorite model store after work today and picked up this Hasegawa #60133 Hughes 500. It's not a plane, but it can fly for sure.

The kit seems fun to build but the color callout seems like a challenge - have no idea where I can find "Semi Gross Black"... Have to improvise - I'm sure that I can find something that looks gross

Got a bit curious about the helicopter itself, so googled this up; http://www.airport-data.com/aircraft/N8337F.html. Looks cool and is not too far from then cammopattern of the kit. Sorry for a bit of random information there....

Hi!

Got home from work late, so there is not much progress today.

Just build some on the cockpit and primed some stuff for detail paint tomorrow.

Image

I have an idea of a diorama, lets hope I can get hold of some stuff.

This will be a late late Easter theme dio, hope I can finish it in time before the SIG build ends :D Next year I will make sure that I'm better prepared.

Here's something to get you in the right mood

Hi!

Build is progressing quite good and I'm having a blast!
I will probably finish the chopper this weekend and might even get started on the dio ;)

Image

I have decided to go for a street-car inspired paint scheme - no need to stick to the boxart cammo pattern.

  "street car" might not be the accurate word for what I had in mind. I just googled it....

What I was thinking of is more like a classic muscle car - orange base coat and white or black stripes.

Cheers :cheers2:

Hey guys,

Last post for today. Cockpit parts are finished som I will mask the canopy and put everything together tomorrow.

Here's the "pilot" - or whatever you want to call it :D
Image

The Staedtler FIMO plastic clay was easy to work with. Just put it into the shape you want it and bake it at 100 deg. C in the oven for 30 mins. It comes out as a hard plastic part that is workable with a sanding stick. I might use this to scratchbuild stuff with difficult shapes in the future.

Peace out

Hey guys,

The Bunny of Doom has taken the pilotseat, beware...

Image

The chopper will go in Tamiya X-6 Orange and XF-69 NATO Black. I prefer the Nato black since plain XF-1 Flat Black looks too black, IMO...

Image

Image

I think that Orange basecoat and Black racing stripes will look cool 8-)

The rotors have been coated with Micro Flat, but I'm not sure to gloss- or flat-coat the fuselage... Have to think about that :

Next up is canopy masking - that will probably keep me busy for the next couple of hours

My kids went totally wild when I showed them the finished bunny. I have to keep the kit on a shelf to keep it safe...

Hey guys,

Work is crazy right now and family-stuff seems to consume the rest of my time, so the build is going a bit slow at the moment...

Managed to put on a first layer of orange basecoat today and will have a closer look at it tomorrow and maybe put on a second coat. Depending on the final look of the paint I will take a decision if I should gloss or flat-coat it. I think both will look good. If I can't make up my mind I can put on satin-coat :D

Anyway, I have started to build small eggs from the FIMO clay aswell. Right now it's freaking impossible to get hold of eggs from a hobby-store, since I missed to buy them before easter  I will start on the dio base tomorrow.

Stay tuned!

The chopper is almost completed now and after spending 2 hours of masking I airbrushed it in 5 mins (including the time to setup and clean the airbrush) :-P
Image

The masking worked - only a couple of minor touchups needed.
Image

So next up is the dio.

Image

I will use a small IKEA photoframe, some Mini Grass Mat and a sandpaper as a base for a helipad.

Lets get started....

Hey,

Started to work on the asphalt of the helipad. Didn't think this through so much and just started smear out putty and surface primer over a grit 240 sanding paper.

Image

After that I painted the paper with different dark grey and black colours (XF-69, XF-85 and XF-63) using airbrush. After that I made a masking stencil for the yellow round circle of the helipad and precutted the grass.

Image

I will add foliage, stones and long grass to make the grass more realistic.

...BUT its unmasking time! (drum-roll!) :heli:

Image

Image

Image

I'm happy with that. Just need to cleanup the canopy and fix some of the edges of the masking.

Stay tuned!

Hey,

Sorry for the slow progress here, but work is a bit up-tempo at the moment. I'm on a tight schedule suddenly since I need to make a businesstrip this weekend - so I loose valuable build-days :-P

Sooo....
- "What's up guys ?"
- "Feet"
Image

Nearly finsihed with the dio... Just need to seal the paint on the frame with some coat and put some final bits together before I set everything up for the Reveal-photos.
