Thanks.

It's getting closer and closer to be done. Have attached the remaining small parts, I used the kit front antenna instead of the PE one as it was too big.

Image

Next I did an oil dot filter to get a more worn and faded look to the paint. I used 502 Abteilung paints, luftwaffe yellow and faded UN white for the top and faded navy blue for the underside.

Image

Image

Also got the landing gear in place, still need to paint the wheels.

The plan is to load it up with four Rb74 (AIM-9L) and two Rb71 (AIM-7E). For the Rb74 I got a set of beautiful Eduard Brassin AIM-9M/L, I had two Rb71 left over from a previous build.

A few more parts to paint and a little bit of clean up and it should be ready.

Jon, I must have seen "a hundred" Viggen builds during my day.
This is shaping up to be one of the best!
The chipping and fading is spot on for the weathered cold war beast is was.
She looks absolutely beautiful!!! :th: :thumb2: :thumb1:

Thanks a lot for the comments. There are a few things that I'm not totally happy with, but I don't think I can fix those now.

Just got the last couple of parts on the plane so only thing left now is a little bit of clean up and I'm calling it done. I needed some pylons for the weapons so I made new castings of the ones I made for my other Viggen build, the pattern for those where made from three strips of 1 mm styreen glued together and sanded to shape.

As it stands now all build.

Since there is still two weeks until the dead line I think I'm going to try to make a small base for it.

Have been working on the base for the past week or so. It's just a simple base representing a part of a road base, so basically a wide road, I might add a figure to it at some point, but I haven't been able to find any shop nearby that has a standing Viggen pilot in stock.

Image
Started with a sheet of wood I had laying around, put some PVA on it

Image
and glued two layers of cardboard over part of it.

Image
I then applied DAS to the corners, this will be the road banks later.

Image
Glued 0.7 mm plastic sheets to get the road surface smooth, on this i glued a sheet of 400 grit sandpaper to get some texture for the asphalt.

Image

Image
Next to the road surface I added a narrow band of gravel. For the gravel I used chips from the small parts tumbler we have at work. The tumbler is just a vibrating bowl that you put chips ans water in that you then use to remove burs from machined parts. Have no idea what the chips are made of but they worked pretty well, I did have to crush them to get them smaller and some different sizes so it doesn't look to uniform.

Image
Then finally MIGs grass mat over the DAS. Next up is some paint.

Final update on this, got the base finished today. I started with painting the road surface in about 6 different shades of grey in sort of random linear pattern following the direction of the road. After this I dusted a thin coat of black over the whole surface to darken it a bit, but thin enough to keep the color variation of the shades of grey. Painted the white stripes and then gave both the gravel sections and the whole road a black oil wash/filter and finished it with dry brushing a light grey on the gravel.

Image

Image

Made a small road sign from plastic sheet and rod, the signs where just printed on a laser printer on a thick semi gloss paper that I then glued on using PVA.

Image

What the finished model looks like, will take some better pictures tomorrow.

Hey, that's fantastic !

It really captures the essence of the SwAF road-base concept - you have to be prepared to run into a moose on the runway :D

No seriously; this is a perfect dio for a perfectly built Viggen :thumb2:   :

Cheers
