1/35 Italeri Sturmtiger

Post by demarcation »

I'll have a go with this kit,the 38 cm Sturmmörser Tiger from Italeri. It comes with pre molded zimmerit that looks quite nice and a very basic interior/engine with sparse details....I will build it OOB but maybe add a base and some figures later. Time will tell.... :)

Thanx guys!! :th:

About time to post some pics from this build. I'm mostly an aircraft dude so building an armor kit is somehow "learning by doing" for my part. :?

The interior in this kit is very sparsely detailed and will not be visible on the finished build. This is how it looked after a coat
of Elfenbein interior color.

Image

Some weathering on the inside parts, upper hull and engine was done.

Image

After priming, the base color was sprayed on the exterior.

Image

Camo scheme added. I tried to fade the colors a bit

Image
Image

Lower hull and running gear

Image

The tracks(looks like Winterketten to me) were of the plastic link and length type and a real pain!!! to deal with, but on they went allthough they never really came out the way I wanted them.

Image

Interior and engine bay glued into position in the lower hull. Exhaust pipes also added.

Image

Finally this is how it looks after the tracks were weathered and the exterior got a dark dirt wash.

Image

Now I'll proceed with the last details and finish the weathering process. Then I'll try to build a simple base and maybe add some figures too.

Looking great to me, I definitely wish I could get my hands on one of these. I love the zimmerit, I wish Tamiya did this as well. I love how the interior turned out.

Love the 3 colour camo. Paint fading and wash have really made it look good. Superb stuff Sir.
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

I've built the Tamiya offering and they most definitely don't do moulded-on zimmerit.

I installed the crane and did the last weathering details on the Sturmtiger.

I decided to go for a "maintenance" theme for the mini dio and found these kits in the stash.

Image

Fuel drums and a dog will also be part of the small base. :)

Image

I painted the figures and table.

Image

Something like this is what I have in mind.

Image

Now I'll just need to put some dirt and grass on the base....Will be back soon!

Looking superb. I've asked my local hobby shop if they can find me one of these kits.
Interestingly the interior looks almost identical to how I remember the Tamiya kit looking.
