Spitting eggs

Post by Twokidsnosleep »

Happy Easter Everybody!!!

Oh I am all over this sig
I think it is my favorite that ISM does...such a diversity of silliness in the builds and they often turn hilarious :D

So this year for me, I have a Spitfire egg by Tiger Models
Image
The box front says “PLS make the object as the standard if have discrepancy”
Righty oh, will do, what the heck does that mean  :

The kit sprues, instructions decals and stickers
Image

As a complete and utter egg nerd, I also have a British pilot and Cockpit Detail set from Retro kits :shifty:
Image

And maybe try out my paint set I got just for Spitfires in the stash
Image

Will wrack my brain :bash: :wall: to figure out a little base to go along with it all
The fun thing about egg builds is than anything goes and no one can whine about historical inaccuracy

Thanks David
I am a little nervous about his moustache...that is gonna be a bugger to paint.
He is leaning on an umbrella...think I am going to cut it off as it looks a bit stupid IMHO

I did a bit of modelling watching the end of the live show this afternoon and then again on the repeat tonight.
Nice to just plug away listening to the banter and silliness...will have to try and get myself sorted electronically to join a hangout one day

Anyhow, started with the resin for the cockpit. The door cards needed a bit of bending to fit so I heated them up in my Mr coffee warmer that I have used for decals long before it came into vogue.
WORD OF WARNING...don’t leave the warmer directly on your modelling matt or the heat can warp it, especially if you forget it and leave it on overnight  :shifty:

Image

Then I decided to cut open the canopy so it has three parts instead of just one blob.
Image
Now I can sort of slide it back to show the interior better
Image

And finally, a dry fit test of the cockpit and interior resin...lots to modify, zero instruction on how to so I just did what made sense
Image

And there we are, simple as that ;)

Saturday morning modelling...so peaceful, so quite, so far from harm and danger....
That is another bugs bunny quote btw.
So fun thing with egg builds is anything goes, so great to try out new stuff and go crazy.
I have not used this set of AK Interactive Air Series Paints as of yet, so let’s give em a shot.
Image

I did a THIN layer of Ultimate white...Paul called me a HOSER last time I muffed the white on my Lotus 79
Then a spray of the interior green. I used it right out of the dropper bottle and it sprayed like silk, gorgeous.
The apex actually spluttered a bit with the Ultimate white and did not with the AK stuff  :

Very nice.

Glad you like the AK stuff. I have one of their rust sets and the paint is seriously thin. Did you spray it neat?

Like the homemade paint station too.

Was quite pleasantly surprised it went down so well

Got a bit done on the little spit today.
Have been putting up a mail box and a doorbell on the house most of the day
I found this site for nice clean nice clear views of a Spitfire cockpit, so a good starting point
http://spitfiresite.com/2010/07/anatomy ... ckpit.html

Then did some detail White dry brushing :o :shifty: ;) and added some wire, styrene nobs and some bits and bobs from my watch parts collection
Image
Image

The one thing I will say about resin is that it is messy and the damn little dust bits stick around like crazy.
I blasted these parts with compressed air and there is still resin dust present. What a pain.

True story from the Battle of Britain. At Kenley airfield a squadron was at dispersal early in the morning and the phone rings. Duty Corporal gets half way into saying 'Scrambled eggs are on their way with the NAAFI van,' and the pilots all bolted for the door. Corporal had to run after them and get them back before they took off.

That is funny and sad at the same time. Those poor guys must have been on edge of their nerves 24/7

I did a little more on this little egg bird last night.
Seat painted a leathery brownish red and all resin cockpit parts pin washed with Tamiya panel liner after I brushed some acrylic gloss on everything.
And the photos off that, ya well....oops
film at 11 ;)

First-round matchups are still up in the air, but I think that's who I'd like to see first. I'm just hoping some of our injuries are resolved soon.

Thunder storm around here for Saturday...lots of rain and a very wet dog walk + dry off
So a good modelling day

Fuselage is together and I have got the center seam sealed up with green Squadron using Danno’s trick of thinning it with MLT :thumb2:
Image

I like a model to have a bit of weight to it in my hands, so often add lead foil to cars and planes etc.
I use old dental film lead which I was saving for recycling, then decided to keep the entire box for modelling. We are digital now, so glad I have a little box full of lead. I fold it up on itself in a coupe layers and stuff it in from the bottom of the engine cowling. In this case I decided to add clear silicone to smoosh everything together and not wiggle around or fallout. The silicone self sets better and deeper than white glue will in that volume.
Image

Nice photo...the right shadow is the iPad and the left one my head :shifty:

The tummy is ready for primer and maybe a mottled coat? Then one of the AK belly colors
Sealed the wheel covers over with the Micro Mask to protect the white in the wheel wells
My poor pilot has fallen to pieces in his chair...literally and figuratively

It’s coming along very nicely, it looks like those Tiger Model kits have some very nice detail OOB.
Maybe the pilot’s name is “Humpty” ;)

Well of that I am glad :D

It is causing me some grief with anticipation of tricky masking for the top camo and bottom sky colours :shifty:

I have been working on her belly.
Freehand airbrushed the underside Ultimate grey, then did a bit of dilute Ultimate primer for panel line accent and mottled a bit
The tank is painted RAF Sky and what I am thinking I will use..or med Sea Grey.

I wanted to paint sky color and see how I liked it  looks a bit like a hospital wall or the runs from eating a bad meal
Still a bit undecided there  : :wall:

Prop is done

Top side will be camo of dark green and ocean grey

That Sky colour does look a bit pukey. :ooops:

Might want to calm it down with some white me thinks?
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

I have seen Sky described as 'Baby Puke' so maybe you are on the right track
