Chiefs GWH F-15e

Post by chief5437 »

well, i enjoyed building the 1/72 phantom so much, that im here to build another! (kit, not phantom, lol!)

just had this delivered over the weekend, and im itching to get started. ive heard such good reviews for the 1/48 kit, im hoping this 1/72 version will be up to the same standard.

lovely boxart.

Looks good. Those Chinese / English translations on the cover are odd.

Wow - they've packed a lot of plastic in that box for a 1/72 kit haven't they?

a shed load of ordnance!

clear parts, complete with (tiny) seam line. :hand:

decals. thankfully, a lot less than on an F-4, lol!
ImageUntitled by rich applegarth, on Flickr

some exciting paint schemes!
ImageUntitled by rich applegarth, on Flickr

note the light grey patches? not part of the paint scheme!!
ImageUntitled by rich applegarth, on Flickr

a strange, four booklet instruction affair.

this will be the load im going with, nice and lop-sided!!

cockpit first!
all primed in Ultimate black, then painted in mig ammo tyre rubber, and more Ultimate black. picked out some details, but im going for an inflight display, so most will be hidden by pilots and a closed canopy.

damn!! that happened fast!
so far this has gone together like a dream, no problems at all. which means, before you know it, youre at this stage...

all ready for primer!

once primed in Ultimate black, i sprayed the metal parts round the rear, in vallejo metal color titanium and ak extreme metal stainless steel. once those parts were masked, i sprayed the main colour with mig ammo medium gunship grey, lightly thinned with Ultimate thinner.
ImageUntitled by rich applegarth, on Flickr

once that had dried, i did the decals.
remember those large grey patches on the colour scheme? well they are actually the size of the decals! rather than have individual decals, gwh have taken four or five decals that are near each other, and put them all on one decal? bit weird, but i wasnt about to start cutting them all into bits!

if you look closely, you can see the huge patches of decal in the pic. im hoping this will all blend in when i gloss coat for weathering.

thats it for now, thanks for looking in guys :cheers2: :cheers2:

Yep i can see what you mean, under the cockpit there is a slab of glossy decal.... nice idea... poorly executed

Yeah. I put a gloss coat on last night. It did reduce the effect a little, but nowhere near enough. I don’t want to put too much gloss on and risk losing the panel lines. Hopefully, weathering and a satin coat will cover it all!

Wow that came together quick!

I guess they're trying to save some of the pain with all the stencils but like you both said it didn't quite work out - hoping you can knock back some of that shiny stuff Chief.
