DRUMS01 aka Ben's Portfolio

Post by DRUMS01 »

Here they are, not in any given order:

1/14 Bburago (toy) with scratch built chassis. Fully plumbed fuel injection, ignition, oil - electric - brake lines. The sticker decals and paint was removed; repainted and water decals from Indycals added. Wheels and tires improved to include valve stems. Full cockpit was recreated from scratch.
Image
Image
Image

1/16 Revell Tony Nancy "The Loner" straight box build. All plumbing was provided in the kit. Correction made based on the real car.
Image
Image

1/14 Bburago (toy) with complete scratch build chassis. Like the Ferrari, the chassis was created as well as most all of the rear suspension. The cockpit was built up based on photos of the original car. Most of the engine was either highly modified or built from scratch to include the injector screens. Custom decals complete the rework.

1/18 toy die-cast, repaint, new scratch interior, rear spoiler, decals, antennas, tow hooks, etc., etc.

1/18 Toy Die-cast of Aston Martin DB4, stripped and repaint; decals from spares, BMF on all window trim, total rework of interior and engine, etc. The front fog lights were originally acorn nuts sourced from a hardware store and the glass for them from spares. The chassis received a similar treatment.
Image
Image
Image

1/18 Porsche 962 Die-cast. Full rebuild with scratch engine, cockpit, and chassis. Cut holes for waste gates, new rear wheels, numerous other body modifications, partial repaint and full detailing on body, full fittings and plumbing, fuel, brakes, etc., etc., from scratch or after-market sources. The large elbow hinge on the rear engine cover was removed to all for the firewall details. The rear bonnet is held in place by magnets.
Image
Image
Image

1/18 Old Tamiya RC Toy of Nissan R382. Total Scratch build. The only thing from the kit is most of the body/skin the engine block, and the wheels/tires. The driver was sourced from another kit. He was highly modified to include a new head, countless cuts on the arms and legs for length and positioning. The coveralls were painted based on the original film footage. He was integrated into cockpit with one hand on the wheel and the other on the shifter. Full plumbing for fuel, electronics, brakes, etc. The complete front bulkhead, as well as front and rear suspension were scratch built from factory drawings.

Thanks Scott, your stuff is impressive so your complement means a lot!

I will have many more to post here over the next week or so. They represent my time in the hobby over the last 15-20 years. The ones prior to that were in two hobby shops and one local museum, now all closed. I never did get any of them back and did not get photos from those places either; lord knows where they went (?)...

Keep in touch... there will be more here....

Not a recent build but I wanted to share the photos of the "after race" finish anyway.
It was an odd car when it raced and an odd car now too. The engine compartment and brakes are plumbed.

Another build done a little while ago based on a 1/20 MPC kit and Tamiya figures. I cannot remember the exact paint, but I think it is very close to McLaren Competition Orange. The rear wing and aluminum chassis was covered in BMF (foil). The engine and brakes were wired and plumbed.

It is the lower grade kit. The chassis is metal, but the body and wheels are plastic. :(

I own a 2400 sq. ft. ranch style home; not including a full unfinished basement which is mostly my man cave. While I still have room to grow, I still need room for my over 300 die-cast vehicles (another large display group), gun safes, wood working equipment, reloading presses, etc. As long as I can keep my wife from invading the basement anymore than she already has, I will be fine for awhile. :shhh: :cheers2:

Shelving will be my only option... the missus won't let anything spill out of the hobby area. I have more in a 3 x 3m area than in the rest of the house  although I keep looking for a display case that might pass inspection although I doubt it.

- corrected the ordnance for the U.S. version (removed rocket pods, added U.S. 1K pounders)
- defined the panel lines and made rivets consistent
- added yellow stripe around the canopy
- cleaned up a little of the belly.

Here she is, the AV8-B Harrier

A couple of beautiful bikes there and incredible detail, bearing in mind the size. Especially love the Yammy, but that might have something to do with the fact that I have the Shoei Norifumi Abe race rep lid!!

1/144 A-10 by LS. Added after-market cockpit, landing gear, decals, and display base. Created and added the fowler flaps; removed tip of left wing pylon to show as opened; opened access panel for pilot ladder; opened test / com panel by left wing root; opened electronics panel on right of aircraft and created internals; created speed brakes / alerions in open position on wing; scratch built generator cart and oxygen cart. Added modified Gundam/Bandai figures.

1/48 Apollo 11 Lunar Module with base (Monogram). Scratch built decent stage, many modifications to accent stage and lunar surface test equipment. This was a fun group build.

Stunning portfolio!!  Some fantastic models showing a wide range of interests. Not to mention some insane modelling skills. Bravo sir!: : :th: :cheers2:

Love your bikes as well. I first swung my leg over a bike at 9 years old, but I've never built a model of one.
