Chiefs tamiya 1/12 yamaha R1

Post by chief5437 »

hey fellas :th: :th:

here's some pics of my first entry.

tamiya kit, so as expected, no problems with fit or engineering. problems created by my own hand is a different matter!

frame was left unpainted, as i really liked the colour.
everything else was primed in either ultimate black or ultimate gloss black.
various metals were used, Vallejo metal colour, ak extreme metals, and tamiya metallics.
smaller parts were picked out with tamiya and craft store paint pens.
body panels were painted in humbrol metallic blue, and coated in halfords (acrylic) lacquer clear.

this was my first bike kit, and it went pretty fast. i cant understate how much i enjoyed this build!
the mojo has been lacking for a good six months now, but this has been such a break from the norm, and went together with no problems. its really renewed my energy to get building more.
don't get me wrong, i know there's lots to work on as far as finish goes, but i just wanted to dive in and enjoy the feel of getting a kit finished without getting too bogged down. so that's why i decided to only use the 'normal' paints etc that i already had available.

anyway, enough of my ramblings. lets see some pics!

Nice work! I knew that paintwork would look superb once you’d laid some clear over it :thumb1:

Wonderful build of your R1.

I have a 1:1 FZ1 in a similar Yamaha blue with a matching sidecar.

Nice clean, and well presented.
