Quick question though, do you like that LP clear? I'm a bit of a Tamiya knob, and the Alclad clear is ok but not great. I don't have the gumption (read: balls) to try the 2K stuff yet and was wondering how it compared?? The Alclad clears are easy to use, but aren't the greatest, you know?

Hi Barry. Yes I really like LP9 clear and tend to use that as my go to car finish now. I also found GX100 to be excellent but for me it gave a slightly softer finish. I'm not familiar with the Alclad clears but have tried 4 different 2ks and they do give a really nice shine but have several disadvantages in my eyes.
If you are interested I am more than happy to share my experiences and views on the pros and cons of each but it could turn into a long (and probably boring for the majority) post.

Not much to show so far this year so this is a welcome (to me anyway) post.
A Meng 1/35 Abrams M1A1 done for the "Not the Usual Conflicts " group build. My first go at a little diorama in nearly 50 years but a surprisingly nice set of figures helped set the scene of the crew trying to swap rations for BBQ meat! I'm certainly no armour modeller but had some fun with this one even if my figure painting still needs much practice.

Nearly forgot to add this one to my scrapbook, a Hasegawa F-15 DJ in the Fighter Training Group 20th Anniversary scheme. The build thread is here viewtopic.php?f=35&t=30134 in case anyone is interested.
Although decals are supplied with the kit I opted to paint all the stripes.

A Tamiya 1/24 Skyline GT-R V spec II.
Painted in LP 43 Pearl White with pure white stripes and GX100 clear. I added metal mesh to the front of the car and some scratch built side indicators to replace the moulded in ones. Glass and lenses were sprayed in a clear green and smoke mix.

My contribution to the Maritime group build was this 1/72 Airfix Sea King with the Eduard Big Ed p/e set. My first helicopter, really enjoyed this one, a great kit.

Managed to fit this one in alongside the group builds. A Tamiya 1/24 Porsche Turbo RSR Type 934 Jagermeister. A nice kit that comes with p/e grills and bonnet pins. The only downside for me was the thickness of the decals which will I've no doubt prevent bleed through of the orange colour but took a lot of work to level them into the clear coat.
The body colour is MRP Jagermeister Orange finished with no less than 15 coats of GX100 clear dried and rubbed down every 3 coats.

Just in time for a Christmas present for my son is this AMT 1967 Chevy Impala at 1/25 scale. It depicts the car that features in the TV Supernatural series that he loves watching.
Taken a long time to finish this one, the kit is more of a challenge than some other cars I have built but I'm fairly happy with the finished result. I replaced the window clear parts with thin acrylic sheet and re did the shiny bits with Green Stuff World airbrush chrome. Painted in Tamiya LPs Including LP9 clear for the clear coat.

Going back to my roots with some Airfix 1/72 kits I received at Christmas.

Bit of fun with this Sherman Firefly. Although I understand that the real tank didn't have it, the kit comes with a forward machine gun so I added it as I thought it looked good. A newish kit this one (2020), very simple build and ideal for practicing a bit of weathering.



Spitfire Mk. 1a, a 2010 tooling and a lovely little kit. Painted in a mix of Tamiya and Mr Color laquers and finished in VMS satin clear. I did this wheels up as I have the Tamiya 1/48 kit in the same markings that will be wheels down.







Focke Wulf 190A-8, a 2013 tooling, needed a bit of careful clean up to get the nose panels fitting how I thought they should but no filler used in the end. Mr Color paints and VMS satin clear.









Mitsubishi A6M2b Zero. 2011 tooling and still fitting beautifully. I found a good 3 view for the rivet detail and thought it would be fun to add some. By the 3rd day the novelty had worn off. Again Mr Color paint and VMS clear.

A cracking portfolio. I've got to admit to never attempting or contemplated building a car before (well out of my comfort zone), but I do recognize skill levels when I see them. A joy to look at. Favourite has to be the Foose FD100. For some reason I love the glint from the finish in the first photo, it's like something from a toothpaste advert. Also the Focke turned out superb. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you very much for your kind comments Paul. I enjoy building car kits and have many planned but sometimes I find the attention required to painting and finishing a little tedious. Sounds strange but working on a seam line on a plane has been a nice change. Do try a car at some point though, I've learnt so much about paint and airbrushing through building them.

Bringing this back up to date with my last two completions.
Firstly the Airfix 1/72 Hawker Tempest Mk.V. This is a 2021 tooling and builds into a lovely little model with the usual careful clean up. I used Mr Color laquers for this one and painted the invasion stripes rather than using the supplied decals.
The scheme is that of Wing Commander Roland Beamont whose very distinguished career included a court martial for flying his lady friend to a dance in a single seater Hurricane.

Secondly the 1/12 Tamiya Yamaha XV1600 Road Star Custom and separate Street Rider figure. Both lovely kits, rather enjoyed doing the figure and a nice change going back to shiney things. I did add brake disks and a few other parts from the Hobby Design p/e kit although the kit is truly excellent as it comes.

Some more completed planes, I really need to try and keep this thread up to date.

Airfix 1/72 Bristol Blenheim Mk. IV f. in Coastal Command 1940 scheme. Quite a nice kit although the engine nacelles and the blanked off bomb bay area needed some extra attention. I did add the Eduard exterior p/e set which includes very nice wheel well and hatch detail. Finished in Mr Color laquers and some light oil weathering.












Next the Airfix 1/72 Messerschmitt Bf109E-4 early 1940 scheme. Quite a good little kit with nothing added however it took a bit of a struggle to obtain a usable canopy from Airfix and in the end I used a vac formed one. Usual Mr Color laquers with some oil weathering.







Lastly the Arma Hobby 1/72 Hurricane Mk1 Expert edition. Thought I would try something other than Airfix and had heard good things about this kit. The expert edition includes p/e which makes for a very detailed build especially the interior and includes some very small parts such as the canopy handles and mirror. I love all the detail in this kit, things like the landing and navigation lights really add something but I found a fair amount of care is needed to get everything to fit, especially in the cockpit.

Thank you Mr Digger Sir. The surface detail on the Arma Hurricane is most impressive and the cockpit is stunning, right down to the p/e map pocket which would happily accept a 1/72 map! Their 1/48 Mk.2 Hurricane is released soon and although not cheap I'm very interested.

How have i managed to miss this. Your painting is some of the best i've ever seen, absolutely stunning. The stand out two for me are the mclaren and the merc CLK. The detail in the engine bay i dont even have words for.....love it !

Lastly the 1/72 Airfix P-51D. My first go at painted bare metal, not there yet but learnt a lot. Really enjoyed this one, I did add some rivet detail to break up the rather plain control and fuselage surfaces. (I didn't notice the missing radio mast until after I'd taken the photos)
