So here is a post even though I thought that I would not find time to.
She looks very simple, so time to start.
Image
Looking at the fuselage halves, two big injector pins to remove.
Image
So I start by removing as much as I can with the cutters.
Image
Followed by swift passes with a small, flat file followed by a skinny sanding stick.
Image
Then on to the floats. I remove the top part and lower "boat" section and remove flash. The plastic is soft so it makes quick work.
Apply glue and wait a minute before placing both parts together.
Image
Some more sanding and a small amount of filler wanted.
Image
Image
While the floats are drying I decided to improve the panel lines.
Image
So this is where I decide to add more detail, I tape the two halves together.
Image
Place some plaster card over the bottom and cut and sand to shape.
Image
It had to be made a lot narrower as the plastic is thick for this scale.
Image
This is glued in with my home-made glue/filler.
Image
Spares box for fuel tank/seat mounting?
Image
Time for LOTS of SANDING and CUTTING to get the wings to fit the fuselage.
Image
Image
Image
Image
Some of the engine parts are glued and painted Citadel Boltgun and the aircraft interior is painted Citadel Balor Brown.
Image
Image
That's all for today. I will post again after my holiday. :th: :th: :th:

You asked for some tips on my thread, so.......

Good colour base for your wood, keep your layers THIN!
Now a little, and I mean almost dry brush, of Citadel Murrfand brown (or any chestnut brown) and barely paint some faint lines that will resemble grain. Faint lines, barely any paint, one direction thinking of how wood grain looks. If the base colour has brush lines in it, highlight the tops of those shapes. You can do some small v shapes and knots, but at 1/48 scale I think just light straight grain following your brush marks.

Let that set up and then overcoat with Tamiya clear orange or if you want it lighter Tamiya clear yellow. Thin layers
A coat of your favorite gloss and Bob’s Your Uncle, job done.
I brush painted everything for my build.
Capise??
Send me a PM if anything doesn’t make sense :shifty: :D

So back from my holiday and I continued on with my build on Monday, as soon as I got back and unpacked.
I want to thank Scott for his offer for help on doing wood grain. :cheers2: :cheers2:
My wood panels are small on this kit as it is only 1/72 scale so I found a small piece of wire and dipped the tip into the oil paint (Burnt Sienna) and made a small attempt to do wood grain just rough squiggles.
Image
Image
The wooden frame was then painted Citadel Ushabti Bone and the ad hoc fuel tank that the pilot's seat is attached to was painted Citadel Dawnstone.
Image
I added a fuel/oil/water tank also.
Image
The engine was assembled and painted Boltgun Metal and semi-gloss black.
Image
Foot pedals and flying stick was glued in.
Image
A red wash was applied around the frame.
Image
Engine and rear gunner seat glued into place.
Image
Once dry both halves are mated and glued, clamped and taped.
Image
Thanks for dropping by. :th: :th:

Paul
From what I can gather they are a Russian model company who make their own models but also have the moulds from other companies such as Frog, MGD, Dakoplast, Arsenal and Toko which the mould for my Hansa Brandeburg.
The plastic is soft and so is the detail filler is needed and I have no idea what the decals are like till I use them so watch this space.
Thank you for your comments. :th: :th:

Okay, with the fuselage buttoned up and left to dry overnight it is now time to glue the wing on.
Image
Sorry for the poor photo, but you might be able to see gaps at the fuselage wing joint.
There was also a step along the lower wing fuselage connection, so I filled this by cutting a small piece of plastic card and gluing it into location.
Image
I added the elevators to the tail, filled the gaps with plastic putty and wiped the excess off with a cotton bud.
This was also done at the wing roots.
Image
Image
Image
The panel lines will be cleaned out also.
The plastic card was sanded into shape.
Image
As the floats have already been glued and sanded I removed some of the struts, cleaned them up and then glued it into location.
Image
Time to fix the water radiator to the plane, but this part was far too big!
Image
Because I did not want to lose radiator detail, I took out a small saw and cut from just above the prop shaft in and then cut down to the lower cut.
Image
Popped into location and glued, a small amount of filler and shaping needs to be done but that is all for today.

On with the build and as the floats have dried with part of the frame in place I drill out the two holes for the front spars.
Image
The next photo shows cross bars that have to be fitted and as you can see they have locating pins on each end.
The only down side is no locating pin holes.
Image
Image
I remove the pins and attached the cross bars at one side only, give them a little time to fix and then turn and fix the bars at the bottom.
Image
I then attach the wing spars to the wing wait for a while so the spars are fixed at one end but can be manipulated.
Image
The floats are glued on to the fuselage with super glue and the then the wing spars are located to the floats, but they do not reach the location pin holes. I glue them any way and fill the gap with hollow plastic rod with the bottom third removed buy that I make the hollow rod into a tiny piece of guttering.
In the next photo you can see the left section no covered and the right one covered and glued.
I think it looks passable.

I love what you are doing here....dealing with it :thumb2:
Ton of shortcomings and issues and you just access them, plan out your action and do it
No bitching and moaning and whining about the kit (ahem, like I do) you just solve the problem and move on
Very much impressed :thumb1:

Hello I am back, and so, on with the build.
This is the tubing that I am using to fill the gaps.
Image
Now that the gaps have been filled I choose a colour to spray the underside of the aircraft.
Image
Yes what a cheat but I had it around and I think that it would look good on the plane, so on it went.
All over.
Image
I covered the engine with Airfix Maskol, I will not be doing that again
Image
Image
Once the paintwork had dried I masked the underside of the wing with masking tape and Maskol.
Image
For the upper paintwork I chose Dark Sea Grey by Mister Hobby. H 75.
This was sprayed on.
Image
Image
Image
Once the paint was dry, off came the masking.
Image
I waited a day before the application of the decals, looking at the picture one can only see two colours.
There are three but one is very faint and they were going on. :( :(
Image
Some trimming was needed to get them to fit.
Image
As you can see on this photo.
Image
I got a fine point pencil, held the decal to the part and marked out the out line.
Image
Cut around the line then stuck them on.
This is where I am as of tonight.

Thanks for dropping by. :th: :th:

Time to start work on a base, I hunted around for an old picture frame and I found one.
Image
Pulled off the card stand from the back, took out the glass and replaced the card.
Image
I cut some balsa wood that I had to make a dockside base.
Image
Placed it in the frame.
Image
I bought a granite cobble set from my local train/model store.
Image
Measured and cut the sheets to fit.
Image
Then cut smaller strips to make the dock wall.
Image
Glued them in place, all the gluing has been done with PVA glue.
Image
I roughly paint the sea with Citadel Regal Blue.
Image
The brickwork is painted with Citadel Dheneb Stone.
Image
I wanted a jetty so I used the rest of the balsa to make posts and supports for the walkway.
Image
Small strips of wood were cut into post size lengths and cut down height-wise to fit the aircraft.
Image
A walkway was then cut to the right length and it was all glued together.
Image
I picked out a few stones in a different colour, Citadel Dawnstone.
Image
Two more blues were painted on to give depth to the ocean. Citadel's Mordian Blue and Alaitoc Blue.
Image
The walkway was painted brown and glued on the base.
Image
To add some interest I purchased a yard crane.
Image
I started assembly straight away.
Image
Image
The frame was assembled and brush painted Tamiya X-33 Bronze.
Image
The jib was painted gloss black with a red pulley, wheel housing and hook. The other parts? painted Citadel Ironbreaker.
Oh, I am going to place it on a small platform, so for that I will be using an exhaust cover from a MiG-29 that I had built for the cold war sig.
Image
The crane frame with cotton thread which was dipped in thin wood glue to give it some rigidity (the cotton thread).
Image
The next picture is the crane 90% built.
Image
While waiting for the glue to dry on the crane I gave the cobbles a Citadel wash of Agrax Earthshade. Brown to you and me.
Image
Once dry the crane had the winch wheels glued on and the base added.
Image
Well that's all for today and thanks for dropping by. :thumb2: :thumb2:

Thank you, I have done a sea diorama with silicone before and it worked a treat. I have some Woodland Scenics Realistic Water that I want to try out.
Not sure how the Brandenburg would have tied up on a jetty as I have not seen any pictures of it in that location.
I found the silicon great for a sea diorama but I am going for a lake/canal effect so I will be going for a calmer water look.
That's the plan.

My little crane is now done and glued on the diorama.
Image
I have also done a little bit more decaling on the old aircraft.
Image
Image
Image
The kit came with a dolly and stand I painted Tamiya XF-60 Desert Yellow.
Image
The parts were given a wash of Citadel's Baal Red and the wheel rims painted gun metal.
Image
To add a little more interest to the diorama I have bought this.
Image
I will put in a street light.
Image
So I cut out the 4 parts that go together to make the street light.
Image
Glued and then painted the light Citadel Waaagh! Flesh.
Image
Well that's all for today.

No it will be going on the dock side for unloading small boats and lifting flying boats out of the water.
Love the idea of a train or truck at the dock side, but alas no.

On went the German crosses on the under wing.
Image
The rear gun and mounting ring were painted and glued on.
Ring mount was painted black and the machine gun was painted Citadel Boltgun.
Image
The spinner was painted Tamiya XF-60 Dark Yellow and once dry thin lines of Citadel Bestial Brown were painted on by hand brushing.
Once dry a wash of Citadel Baal Red was applied.
Image
Then attached to the plane.
Image
The street lamp and two bollards where glued in place on the diorama, I just placed the wheeled dolly and stand on also.
Image
It will soon be done.

So the guns are on and the exhaust pipes are on and painted, technically the plane is done but I may do a little weathering.
The diorama needs to be completed so more to follow.

Sorry for the late posting but I lost my mojo on this one. Raced to get it done and forgot to take pictures.
Here we go, I had some realistic water from Woodland Scenics and I was going to give it a go.

This is what she looked like glued to the board.

Added some clear green to my first pour.
Image
Not enough green and the realistic water was starting to pull paint away from the floats.
Image
For the next pour I used Tamiya Blue X-4.

I wanted a deep relatively fast moving current so each time the water had dried I would pour a lighter colour and not enough to completely cover the first application.

Once everything was dry and set I added a WW1 German Field Wagon from Hat, the plastic is more like rubber to cut with lots of flash and poor moulds.
I also added two figures from Airfix WW1 German Infantry again the same applies as to the Hat Wagon.
Sorry no pics taken until the final reveal.
