Royal International Air Tattoo 2025

Post by Tomcat64 »

July has been really busy for us and the downside is that it's severely restricted my bench & browsing time but the upside was that a couple of weekends back was our annual trip down the road to Fairford for RIAT.

I've still got loads of photos to work through but here's my first batch from walking around on Friday

So as expected it's taking me a while to work through Sunday's efforts but in the meantime here's a couple of short sets to give a quick idea of how it went...

It's fair to say that conditions were... changeable... here's a few shots from the Chinook display with the timestamps of when they were taken...

Timestamp 13:47
Image

Timestamp 13:52
Image

Timestamp 13:55

And one of the highlights of Sunday's display was seeing the U2 in flight

Great pics (as ever).

Amazing the U2 is still in service and still viable. What incredible designing and engineering.

Thanks lads - yep the U2 is still quite a sight; it went into service in 1956 so will be 70 next year :eeek:

I'm about half-way through Sunday's photos so here's the highlights from the first half...

19.
It was a bit moist to start the day - the first couple are just transport movements rather than being part of the show

20.
Image

21.
They've upped the top speed limit for displays this year and a couple of the fast jets were transonic on their fast passes

I think the B52 is older entering service in 55, read somewhere it's planned to be flying at 100! If true that's amazing considering the concept of heigh level strategic bomber is pretty much dead, or perhaps it isn't.

There was some extremely sad news on the Air Display circuit this week when we heard that Polish pilot Major Maciej ‘Slab’ Krakowian, the leader of the Polish Air Force's F-16 Tiger Demo Team, had been killed in a crash whilst practising for the Radom airshow in his native country just weeks after being awarded the "As the crow flies" trophy for "best overall flying demonstration" at RIAT in July.

So here are a few more of my shots from his displays as a now poignant tribute and reminder of the risks these guys take on a daily basis
